What would you tell someone just starting out in the industry right now?

Build a strong foundation in how the business actually operates. Understanding how trades flow, how accounting ties out, and how systems behave in the real world will make you far more effective. Ask questions, learn from people who have done the work themselves, and don’t be intimidated by large/complex problems as they can always be broken down into a series of smaller, easier to solve ones.

What has changed the most since you started out in the industry?

The scale and complexity of both data and systems have increased dramatically. When I started, many processes were manual and siloed; today, firms rely on tightly integrated platforms. That shift has raised expectations around accuracy, controls, and timeliness, making strong system design and implementation more critical than ever.

What are three words that describe how you do your job?

Practical. Solutions-oriented. Collaborative.
