Dan Hunter is the President & Founder of HBMJ Consulting, an F2 Strategy company. Dan founded HBMJ in 2004. HBMJ specializes in operational scalability, data intelligence, and technology transformation for hedge funds, hybrid funds, private credit, and other alternative investment firms seeking institutionalization of the back office. Dan leads the team that helps alternative asset managers simplify complexity, scale efficiently, and unlock real-time operational insight through optimized technology and process.
Directly prior to founding HBMJ, Dan served as a Project Manager at GlobeOp Financial Services in New York and was responsible for the implementation and support of the Advent Geneva® Portfolio Accounting System, managing the conversion of clients onto the Geneva® platform. Dan lives in Florida.
To really succeed in business, focus on taking full ownership of your work and proactively seek feedback to bridge the gap between your college experience and professional expectations. You should prioritize building strong relationships with your colleagues and understanding your role in the bigger picture and aligning your strengths with organizational goals.
We have an opportunity to learn from excellent companies and constantly get exposure to new technologies and ways of thinking. I think about us being in the business of transformation, especially as it relates to problem solving. It’s always gratifying to be able to come into these organizations and make a genuine impact in someone’s day-to-day operations.
The industry is ready to grow up operationally—and that’s exciting. Strategy has moved fast; investment strategies have matured quickly; now, infrastructure has to match it. The spotlight is on building operating models that are just as sophisticated. At HBMJ, that’s exactly where we live - helping firms build platforms that scale with discipline, clarity, and control. Being part of that next chapter of institutionalization, where strategy, operations, and technology finally align is what energizes me most.
